The University has been involved in supporting a Sports Bursary Programme for over 15 years and many elite athletes have benefitted from the scheme.

A bursary can be awarded in any sporting discipline recognised by UK Sport.  Applicants should normally have reached or demonstrated a particular level of standard to be considered for the Bursary Programme.  Currently there are:-

  • World/Olympic Standard
  • European/British Standard
  • Potential to reach A or B demonstrated at a junior level

The Bursary Programme is not confined to the provision of financial assistance to selected athletes, although this does form an integral part of the process.  The programme offers a comprehensive support package to allow talented athletes the opportunity to study, train and compete within a balanced framework.

The University has a flexible study policy which is designed to support student athletes and help balance their sporting and academic commitments.
The scheme includes free access to the sporting facilities of all three Glasgow universities (Strathclyde, Glasgow and Caledonian) as well as Culture & Sport Glasgow’s.

Golf Scholarship Programme

The Golf Scholarship Programme invites golfers attending the University with handicaps no higher than four (4) for men and eight (8) for women.  This programme is funded by grants from the R&A Foundation and the University Alumni Fund.

Qualifying Standard: In order to apply for a bursary the applicant must be a current matriculated student, who meets the programme criteria.
